His love for service comes from volunteering with disaster relief efforts following the tornados of April 27th.  When asked “Why do you believe in the power of youth serving in communities?” he responded; “Community service connects youth with bigger issues that impact them and their neighbors. Through service, they can achieve a better understanding of their ability to lead service that shapes their community.”  Daniel earned a B.A. from the University of West Alabama and a M.P.A. in nonprofit management from UAB.  His wife teaches in Chalkville and his son is a rambunctious one-year-old. Over the following years she became a camp regular as well as an active participant in the weekend and holiday service days. When she was sixteen she became a member of the Youth Action Council, which led to her becoming a counselor at the Urban Service Camp two years in a row! Shaina attends the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Psychology major in her sophomore year. She enjoys dancing, rock climbing, and trampolining. Now she joins the Youthserve team as an Program Intern and is looking forward to what the year has to offer!
