Community Action Coordinator Job Description
In keeping with YouthServe’s mission to Empower Youth Leadership through Community Service, the Community Action Coordinator is responsible for creating safe, fun and diverse environments for young people to serve in the community while developing leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute half-day weekend volunteer opportunities (Work Days) for 50-100 teenagers, ages 13-18, on a monthly basis.
- Plan and execute weekly volunteer opportunities (WorkCrews) during after-school hours.
- Recruit and manage a youth council comprised of teenagers
- Form healthy relationships with teenagers, ages 13-18, including, but not limited to: visiting area high schools, attending youth’s recreational activities.
- Form partnerships with community leaders, organizations, and area schools.
- Deliver presentations to area schools, civic groups, places of worship, etc.
- Assist in running the Urban Service Camp program during June and July.
- Be able to set goals and measure the success of the Community Action program.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Knowledge of the Birmingham area, a plus
- Experience working with young people
- Work a 35-hour work week, including some nights and weekends
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Basic command of Microsoft Office, the Internet, and knowledge of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Must have an open-mind, enthusiasm, a willingness to affirm young people, and a positive attitude.

- Salary: mid $20s
